A little about us!

2010 was a big year for Canada! Millions of folks caught a glimpse of our great country while watching the 2010 Olympiad in Vancouver. However, another occurrence was seething just under this great event….. Dave Lambert and myself (John Staley) were tying knots and lamenting that we should start a chapter of the International Guild of Knot Tyers.

For those of you who have never visited Canada, here are some interesting statistics:

  • Size of Canada- 3,856,751 square miles (second largest country in the world, Russia is first)
  • Population- 33,100,000 (give or take a moose or two)
  • Official languages- English and French
  • Most of the people live in the southern part of Canada.
About 77 percent of Canadians live in cities and towns.
The largest cities are Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver
  • Toronto - 5.5 million; Montreal - 3.6 million; Vancouver - 2.1 million

Our chapter of the IGKT is located in Hamilton, Ontario. Hamilton is at the westerly tip of Lake Ontario approximately 40.9 miles or 65.8 km from Toronto.
